11th Annual Pennsylvania German Writing Festival
July 3, 2017, 1:30
The Kutztown Folk Festival is sponsoring the Eleventh Annual Pennsylvania German language writing festival. This festival is modeled on the regional dialect writing festivals held in Germany and France. We encourage participants to submit original examples of Pennsylvania German writing to the festival. These submissions may include short stories, poems, skits, true events, histories or other short literary works in the Pennsylvania German (Deitsch) language.
This year the Writing Festival presentation is scheduled for July 3 at 1:30, 2017 on the Seminar Stage at the Folk Festival. We are honored that Michael Werner, publisher of the Pennsylvania German newspaper “Hiwwe wie Driwwe” and a leading scholar of the language and literature, will be present at the event. Some entries will be published in Hiwwe wie Driwwe and entered into the Bockenheim, Germany dialect contest.
Entries and presentations should be in Deitsch with an English translation. People who know the Bufffington-Barba-Beam spelling should use that system but we encourage everyone to enter regardless of their spelling system. We will accept entries from people who cannot attend the festival but look forward to seeing and hearing everyone. Any questions, please contact:
