The 2024 Pennsylvania Dutch Calendar celebrates the Dengelschtock (sharpening anvil)— a simple and all-but-forgotten tool that serves as a reminder of the frugality and ingenuity of farming families and the cooperative agricultural traditions that characterize the Pennsylvania Dutch cultural region.
The calendar highlights artifacts from the cultural collections of the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center at Kutztown University and the private collections of Christopher Witmer, Tom Huffman, Eric Rutt, and Patrick Donmoyer, featured in the exhibition Der Alt Dengelschtock: Precision, Frugality, & Cooperation in Pennsylvania German Agricultural Tradition, running from November 2023 through May 2024.
